Are laboratory vent hoods considered to be a classified area?
That clearly depends on what is done under the hoods!
If volatile solvents and flammable gasses or dusts are handled regularly, then I would say yes.
Whether that or a lesser classification extends to the whole lab will depend on the design of the hood and the nature of the other operations in the lab.

Not automatically; GoldDigger is correct that the materials used and test protocols will ultimately determine the internal classification.

I would note that, if the vent hoods and the rest of the laboratory is designed, maintained and operated consistent with NFPA 45, Standard on Fire Protection for Laboratories Using Chemicals, electrical classification will be limited to the vent hoods. Fourteen years ago, I helped save a major refinery $750k by pointing this out.
