We took this picture while in Pensacola, Florida last week. I guess when you tackle hurricanes fairly often fear just does not exist. This guy was on a 3rd story of a building about 20ft from the ground.

Well, what can you say other that stuff like this is why people get killed or seriously injured? This is usually what precedes the stories we hear on the news.

Hey, if he loses his balance, he's got that humongous sign & post right there he can grab onto. If he falls to the ground, his buddy on the porch can call 911, just like this guy does.

My attitude would be "Oh well. I can only keep the house from burning down. This guy is OSHAs problem."

Nope, not OSHA's problem, it will be his employers problem when OSHA slaps them with a "serious violation";or worse his family's problem when he is crippled and no longer able to support them.

I do not mean to preach, as I have done some reckless things on jobs before; but now as an OSHA outreach instructor, my goal is to enlighten people to the dangers of their jobs as well as the consequences.

Aren't these some of the most famous last words?

"No problem"
"watch this"
"I think I smell gas"
"Oh crap"
"Get your own beer woman"
"Don't worry I do this all the time"

I guess it must be my poor eyesight.

If he is standing on a work platform then everything looks basically correct, except for not having a fall restraint device? Of course, if he is standing on a horizontal extension ladder he is wrong.

Good, that was also the only problem I could see.

If we really dig we might be able to find issues with the plank not being secured and the overhang that could turn it in to a see saw.

But the glaring issue to me is the guy can hit the ground.

FWIW the guy on the deck is also in violation of OSHA, no rails on the deck or fall protection on the guy.
