Lamp cord for Class 2 output

How serious a violation of code rule 725.82 is the use of lamp cord (SPT-1, 2 conductor, 18 AWG) when used as load conductors from a Class 2 power supply (DETEX 800 Controller) to exit devices with a delayed egress; panic bar on exit door and magnetic door lock?
The intent is to keep the door locked for 15 seconds until security personnel can check to see that there is no shoplifter leaving. Manufacturers instructions require connection to the Fire Alarm System.

How serious a violation?
Anyway, lamp cord is not approved by the NEC for this application, it has to be a Cl2 cable, or other type allowed by Art 725. And practically, lamp cord will deteriorate over a period of ten years as the insulation dries out and cracks.

SPT-1 is listed as flexible cord. You would need to make sure that the installation would comply with 400.7 and 400.8.

And you can't use a flexible cord as building wire, not in conduit or raceway or even fastened to a surface.

Since this is only 18/2 I would think you could find something more suitable for not a lot of money.

Its a violation.

Like many things that violate the code it probably is not a safety issue.

I don't know how to determine if a violation is "serious" or not. I am not sure it really matters because it is clearly not allowed.

OTOH, there are some lamp cord like products that have CL2 ratings. Think landscape lights.
