When using 16-2 lamp cord for low voltage under cabinet lighting, is it code permissible to run lamp cord buried in the walls or can it only be surface mounted? Thanks

Also see 400.8(5), lamp cord can not be concealed.

The way you phrase your question leads me to hear "SP or SPT cord" that is added between the low voltage luminaire and the power supply. If so, then 400.8 (4) and 400.8 (5) kick in.

Yes the cable is spt so I guess I cannot run it in the walls. What are you guys using for your low voltage cabinet lighting installs for cable. Is there something else I can use besides a 14/2 nm in the walls?

IMO, there is no compliant way to hide the low voltage wires in a wall for puck lighting and most other LV systems. I have not found a suitable way to be compliant except to install the transformer in the upper cabinet and leave it exposed under the cabinet.

There are some systems out there are approved for wires in the wall but it is an entire system. Read art. 411 esp. 411.3, 411.4 and 411.5
