anybody know where, if at all, the code calls for lamp gaurds on keyless fixtures in attics? Or, for that matter on any type of exposed incandescant lamp anywhere, such as a flood lamp? thanks

Not required by the NEC, but not a bad idea if you're really concerned about it. The plastic baskets for temp lights are about $1 each.

two jurisdictions i work in don't allow a keyless in the attic; although they have no formal code amendment, it doesn't cost much to comply. i quit using them altogether and use a small globe fixture for around $4. In residential, its not a big deal to spend an extra couple of bucks for it. i don't have a problem with using a keyless in the attic, but its not a bad idea to have a concealed lamp.
