I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem I just started experiencing. I have a yard lamp post wired on a switch that trips my GFCI receptacle when switch is turned on. When I take the lamp fixture off the pole (wires still hooked up) it does not trip the gfci when switch is turned on. Once the lamp fixture itself makes contact with the pole when put back on it trips the gfci. There are no wires touching inside the fixture. Also if the lamp is unhooked from the wires it doesn’t trip, only trips when it touches the pole. I thought maybe the fixture was bad so I wired a receptacle to the wires and touched the screw for the receptacle to the pole and it tripped too. This light has been up for years and there haven’t been any changes. What could be causing this? I thought maybe a nick in the UF cable, but why would it only trip when making contact with the pole?
