I'm trying to provide a budget for my client but a little unclear as to work invloved. Have no info on the existing fixture. All I'm being asked to do is "Remove existing lamps and replace with (2) Keystone 2' T8 lamps" . The product features for the lamps below says "intergral driver". How is that possible within a lamp? Thought a driver was separate device with within the fixture housing or remote....not in a lamp. Also the wiring diagrams say to cut all connections to ballast and remove ballast. Is that because the lamps have intergal driver so now I don't need a ballast? So this seems like a retrofit where I will need to rewire???

Yes, they are LED tubes designed to be powered directly from line voltage applied to the keystones.

Some tubes require power at one pin on each end, others, like yours, receive both lines at one end.

Just cut the wires off of the ballasts, remove or leave them in, and wire power to the tombstones.

Some LED tubes come with new tombstones. You can either use the old ones or replace them all.

What are tombstones? In this regard :)

As I recall (fuzzy memory) the kicker if you are rewiring the fixture is whether or not you can use the existing tombstones/wiring.
As I recall some are shunte4d, as noted, and some won't accept two conductors. In the best of worlds, you could simply connect "Line" to the existing tombstones but if you have to change them out the time required increases significantly. Some fixtures are very uncooperative.

Hot and neutral on same end won't work with existing tombstones if they are shunted type?
Which is why some come with tombstones so you can replace them.

Luminaires that were initially intended for T8 lamps are what typically will be shunted, single conductor run to each lamp holder is a good sign it is shunted.

The LED replacement lamps come in many different configurations. Keep the existing ballast, remove the existing ballast. Keep or remove at your choice. all connections one end. one wire each end. This is one of those things where reading the instructions first is imperative.

I used the old tombstones. Just cut the wires at the ballast and connected the line power to the tombstones as shown on the instructions.

And why I mostly still replace ballasts and don't put in direct powered lamps. I go to places where they have lamp stock of T12, T8, fluorescent, and LED in both ballast bypass and non bypass. When I get called there because they can't figure things out, it is a mess and even if luminaire is labeled what to use, they don't know the difference and had already tried every lamp type they have in it, probably damaging some those lamps in the process.
