In the 2005 NEC Article 590.4(E) it states that "all lamps for general illumination shall be protected from accidental contact or breakage by a suitable fixture or lampholder with a guard."
Since that applies to temporary wiring doesn't this same hazard exist for permanent wiring? I have looked in Article 410 for the same requirements but do not see any other NEC references. Besides clothes closets and indoor sports facilities, do lamps need guarding in general locations, such as in industrial areas, etc.? If so, are there any height restrictions that guarding would not be necessary?
