I have a customer with 4 recessed lights in her kitchen controlled with a dimmer. Each can has a 65W BR30. She feels she needs just a little more light. The can/trim can handle a 75W R30 and a 75W PAR30. I have never installed an R30. Which do you recommend.

Frank, if you remove the bulb and trim, there should be a label inside the can listing the manufacturer-approved bulb/trim combinations. I'm 99% sure that a 75-watt bulb can be used anywhere a 65-watt bulb can (65w is not a "standard" wattage - it's more of an energy-saver rating).

Go with the PAR30 75 watt halogen. They use only 10 more watts of energy but provide a lot more light. Halogen light is whiter than the R type lamps and has a better CRI so colors appear more like they actually look in daylight.

BR and R are basically the same thing except for a small change in the shape of the bottom portion of the bulb. Due to some energy bill major companies had to stop using R bulbs, so to get around it and renamed them to BR with a minor change. Supposely BR are slighty more energy efficent because of how it reflects like.
