Can landscpe lighting be ground mounted less than 10 ft from a swimming pool?

Between 5' and 10' luminaires shall be GFI protected.
680.22(C)4

(4) GFCI Protection in Adjacent Areas. Luminaires, lighting outlets, and ceiling-suspended (paddle) fans installed in the area extending between 1.5 m (5 ft) and 3.0 m (10 ft) horizontally from the inside walls of a pool shall be protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter unless installed not less than 1.5 m (5 ft) above the maximum water level and rigidly attached to the structure adjacent to or enclosing the pool.

What type of lighting, Low volt?

If you are greater than 5 feet, GFI protected, and meet all of the approved wiring methods. You can. I think,,,, I may be wrong. I just skimmed through 680, but I may have missed something.

For LV lighting systems (30 volts or less) they must be 10' from the nearest edge of the water unless specifically permitted by Article 680. 411.4(B)

A while ago I found this article by written Mark Ode in which he says this,.way down at the bottom ,.also this guy has been around , read his bio , also at the bottom .

Section 680.22(B)(4) permits luminaires to be in-
stalled within 5 to 10 feet horizontally of the pool?s edge
only where a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI)
protects the luminaires. Since low-voltage landscape
luminaires are supplied by a low-voltage power supply,
such as a transformer, providing GFCI protection on
the primary side of an isolation transformer will not
provide GFCI protection on the secondary side.

GFCI
devices will not operate at the 15-volts or less supplied
by the secondary of the power supply. this leaves only
two options: one is to locate all low-voltage landscape
lighting at least 10 feet from the pool or fountain edge;
or, two, to use a special power supply.

There are low-voltage lighting power units that are
marked ?For Use with Submersible Fixtures or Sub-
mersible Pumps.? In this case, a special transformer is
used that complies with the requirements in 680.23
for underwater luminaires installed below the normal
water level of the pool.

I guess I don't see language that supports this notion ,.. but is there language that prohibits it ??

Ha so if its Low volt probably not, but if its line voltage and at least 5 feet high from the water and 5 feet horizontal (rigidly attached) you can.

A low voltfixture in the exact sam espot is a violation but line voltage is allowed simply becasue of the GFI.

That doesn't seem to be the safer option
