LANDSCAPE LIGHTING USING PVC: 120 volt 20 amp GFCI protected: 12 inches (plus) depth: Lights in lawn aside concrete walkway:

Question: Do sweeps and risers to boxes at grade need to be rigid metallic (galvanized)?

Many thanks, Ron

If the raceway is going to support the enclosures, with fixtures or lampholders you will need to use at least two GRC or IMC at the boxes.

Re: LANDSCAPE LIGHTING IN PVC

Arlington makes something called a "rocket post" (I'm not sure if the terminology is exactly correct). They're driven down into the soil. Inside the post it has 2 knockouts that you can run the PVC into with terminal adapters, without having to switch to galvanized. I've used these many times in the past and they work great. They have outriggers to each side so they won't sway beneath the soil. However, it all depends on what type of fixture you're going to use and how top heavy it may be. I've used them with (2) RAB line voltage floods (1 out the top and one out of the plate on the side) and they hold up the fixtures well. Good luck.
