Re: landscape wiring in conduit

If its a listed system, it would be installed under the provisions of Art 411. Art 411 does not require conduit. If the system is not listed, then it could fall under the rules of Art 725, and it would depend on the power (VA) of the "low voltage" system. Once you exceed the power limits in Art 725 then you have to use a chapter 3 wiring method.
For the typical "malibu" system, conduit is not required.

Re: landscape wiring in conduit

I just finished hand trenching and installing 1/2" rigid steel conduit (100') in a landscaped yard. The purpose was to protect the low voltage secondary wiring for the landscape lighting. I didn't do this because it was a code requirement, rather I was tired of having to dig up and repair the damaged wire every time the landscaper left.
I installed this lighting new about 4 years ago and I've probably repaired it 5 times. Now when the shovel hits the dirt no wires are cut. No more calls "my lights don't work".
