I have a couple of laser levels and I love mine as well, but this is my question.
What do you sit it on when you are trying to level stuff up. To put it another way, I level plugs switches, counter top plugs and bathroom Vanity lights with it. 18", 48", 54" and 76" respectively.
You cant buy a tripod that will reach 76" and you cant get a cheap one that will do 18". My improvised method is to get my ladder and pick a step that is close to where ever i need to be and then find a piece of whatever to make up the difference.
Anybody have any better ideas?

Re: Laser Level holder

Good question for the framers.
When the floors aren't perfect, the outlets look like they are off when the cabinets go in.

Re: Laser Level holder

I measure one outlet spot and then pop a chalk line to the rest from a level line. Best to put in a corner, then you can hit two walls at one time. Its cheap and looks just as good. Might even save time by the time it takes to setup and adjust the laser sights tot eh right height. :D

When you right, your right. :)
Some of us are gadget guys I guess. :D

Re: Laser Level holder

How acute is your laser? I went out a couple of weeks ago to finally buy one of these and found most of them are +/- 1/2" in 30' unless you get into the $1000 range. When I am over a counter top I grab the carpenters 6' level.

Re: Laser Level holder

+-1/2"?
Light follows a straight line.
The beam may be 1/2" in 30'.
If you use the center of the beam it should be accurate.
I dont think that the beam is bending +-1/2".

Re: Laser Level holder

To find the correct height for receptacles I cut a piece of 2X2 or 2X4 to the height of the center of the box and use it to mark the studs. Cheapest measuring tool I know of.

Re: Laser Level holder

Laidman, if you use that method in a kitchen you might end up with trouble. If the floor is out of level at all and you set all your boxes from the floor at each box, when the cabinets go in level your boxes will look like they are not at the same height as you move along the counter which is level. If there is tile going in it magnifies the problem. For general purpose receptacles around the house I use a piece of wood like you do. The diffidence is I set the box on top of the wood rather than trying to eyeball the center of the box to the top os the wood each time.
