In a laundry room do the counter tops have to follow the same placement rules for receptacles as the kitchen counters? Ie any counter 12", within 24' etc.

Only if its in the kitchen... :) Or dining room for that matter...

How does a dining room come into play here? Or wet bars or bathrooms... Or any of the other typical counter areas. A kitchen is a kitchen...

The one in the laundry room doesnt even have to be anywhere near the counter if there is one at all. It could be near the ironing board it is for...

210.52(C) Countertops. In kitchens and dining rooms of dwelling units, receptacle outlets for counter spaces shall be installed in accordance with 210.52(C)(1) through (5).

210.52(A) does not cover a laundry room and 210.52(F) states that at least one receptacle shall be installed for the laundry.
Convenience aside, does the code only require one outlet for entire laundry room?

I only put one for "Convenience" the washer and dryer are not included and most cases neither is the lighting. You would firgure this is where they iron their clothes. Voila. outlet for iron.

Laundry rooms are not included in 210.52(A) and therefore are not subject to 210.52(A)(1) or (A)(2) which specify spacing and wall space.

I believe there is something about the size of the room and can it be used for other things. Can't remember exactly.
