220.52B requires a 1500va load to be included in the general lighting load as req'd by 210.11C2. 210.11C2 requires a laundry branch circuit as required by 210.52F. 210.52F exc. 1&2 state that you do not need to install this circuit. I understand that one part of the code deals with installation and the other part deals with calculations, BUT, the calculation part refers you back to the install part. This leads me to believe that you would not be required to use the laundry load in the calculation for minimum code calculation. Please enlighten me.

Re: laundry load used in service/feeder calculation

If you meet 210.52(F) Ex. 1 or 2 you don't have to include the laundry circuit.

Re: laundry load used in service/feeder calculation

The NEC is full of ?double-speak,? and is often hard to follow. I agree with Physis. Here is my reasoning process:

  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">220.16(B) says to include 1500 VA for the laundry branch circuit as required by 210.11(C)(2).</font>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"></font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">210.11(C)(2) says to install at least one branch circuit to serve the laundry outlet that is required by 210.52(F).</font>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"></font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The two exceptions to 210.52(F) give situations in which a laundry outlet is not required.</font>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"></font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">If you don?t need the outlet, then you don?t need the branch circuit.</font>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"></font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">If you don?t need the branch circuit, then you don?t need to include the 1500 VA.</font>

Re: laundry load used in service/feeder calculation

220.16(B) says to include 1500 VA for the laundry branch circuit as required by 210.11(C)(2).
The word "required" is where I hung my hat.

The NEC is full of ?double-speak,? and is often hard to follow.
CMP 2 is my favorite panel. :D

Re: laundry load used in service/feeder calculation

Is is accepted practice in calculating the service or feeder load to negate the laundry load in the above discussion. Or would you be expected to include it?
