Plans for a resturaunt show LCD TV's installed in a covered patio. They hang from the ceiling, with a standard duplex mounted on the pole that supports the TV set.

I would appreciate any other opinions on if this is allowed?

I think this is considered a damp location, so I'm not sure I can require a "while in use" cover.

I'm also not sure about the TV itself. Would it have to be listed or identified for use in a damp location, or outdoors?

Some of these have an external power supply with a DC input. It would not be necessary to have mains power at the TV, you could run low-voltage supply wiring from a power supply mounted in a dry location.

The tv itself is not your problem, as far as the receptacle if its a damp location then just install the appropriate cover.

When all else fails, fall on the side of prudence. Install an in-use cover. If they can afford the TV, they can afford a $5 cover.

As for the TV, it is not your responsibility what they plug in to it.

Agreed. The electrician's responsibility ends at the receptacle. What they plug into that (good, bad, or otherwise), is their business. Unless it rains sideways, probably won't matter anyhow. I know that in Florida it is common to see washers and dryers installed on the back porch under a roof.

I would think most any town. I have seen this done in different locations. Do you think when closing they have to take down and bring in the tv's every night? Do they make in use covers for tv's?:D

Not sure about up north but here in Tampa we are starting to see lcd signs on interstate. As to the op yours job is not about what gets plugged in.Its only the receptacle that needs meet code.As per nec it cares less if it ever gets used.

Quick seach of 'I bet they make 'em' turned up this gem of advice.
Prices vary on the Sanyo CE42LM4WPR 42 inch Weatherproof LCD Monitor depending on the marketplace, though as a rule of thumb, take the non-weatherproof price and multiply by three.

Just don't forget your ladder. It is a fenced in patio.

I should have said that I'm not the electrician. I'm doing a plan review to make sure everything meets code.

I agree that a "while in use cover" seems to make sense, but I have to quote 110.3 to require it.

How far from the edge of the patio roof?

I usually use a 45? angle from the edge of the roof to seperate "damp" from "wet" locations.
Rain will not usually blow in at more than a 45? angle.

With high ambient lighting the picture won't have any contrast. Their problem.

we've got those LED billboards here now too! Those things are pretty slick. I'm like mosquito headed to a bug light when I see one.

There's nothing special about the ad in that one, but some of them do get pretty fancy.
