Does anyone have a place to download a study on leakage current? I want to understand it a little better, but don't want something pertaining to electronic leakage currents. In hospitals I was told if you use an isolated ungrounded system you have to have a leakage current detector and they use XHHW-2 because of the high insulation value. I want to understand it on a basic level be able to determine if it is present and use any formulas that may help me calculate it out. Thanks.

Instead of leakage current, you should be researching 'line isolation monitors'.
Two large manufacturers are Bender and Schneider Electric.

It sounds like the leakage current you are describing is what's seen in isolated power panels. It's like a GFCI that only alarms but doesn't trip, and is used mostly in operating rooms.
