Came across this beauty. The guy said when his pool filter runs water comes out of the receptacle about 25' from the pool. I figured the guy was a crackpot but decided to humor him and get paid to do so. Well I was pretty surprized when he turned on the filter and the water came flowing out of the weather proof box. I looked around a little and found a pretty soggy part of the yard and decided to dig it up. Found the clean water return to the pool and the pvc receptacle feed conduits both damaged in the same spot right in the same trench. I think the ground was packed so well it was just diverting the water right into the electrical conduit. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it for myself. He got a real good deal, plumbing and electric repair for the same price.

I would have checked the voltage w/respect to ground at the top of the stream. More than 2vac might mean you've saved lives. And if this voltage could deliver more than 20 mA into 300 Ω or so then almost certainly you've saved lives.

I didn't really see the need to check with a meter. There was no way I was walking away from that.
People who don't know that you've saved their lives will not be grateful. :(
But your action does cancel out some past bad deeds.
Not that you have any!

That's gotta be picture of the year, right there!
There was a picture of a shower in Iraq showing many volts in the water.
I thought it was a fake, but I didn't understand at the time that there is no upper limit on incompetence or negligence. And I guess sand is a poor elec. ground.
