What would be the best way to learn load calculations? I haven't had to do them until now and never grasped it all that well as an apprentice. I have only this part of the test left to take to become an Administrator in WA. I currently have Mikes Electrical Exam Prep Book but It's not staying in my head.
Thank You.

Examples in annex D, and scanning the code for relevant application of/in certain situations....

There are some spread-sheets around, but you don't 'learn' anything that way IMO.

If you need to do it for a test - I suggest you do a few sample ones...

I don't have the book, so I don't know how it's laid out, but I've included this in the FAQ if you want to look that over.

For me, remembering that there are six main steps helped a lot. That way, if I had completed a calc and had only done five steps, I knew I missed something. Then I'd scan Article 220 (or Annex D) to see what I forgot.

That's what I'm looking for. Thank you.

A spreadsheet can help, if you build it yourself. By the time you get done, you will have learned a lot about both the NEC and your spreadsheet.
I agree. With respect to resi loads, I haven't done a ton, but I did do a large student housing complex once and built a great spreadsheet. That having been said, I don't have the tool any longer.

At the beginning level, you should learn to do them buy using a piece of paper and a simple calculator.

Once you have it memorized, then you can be more efficient by developing a simple spreadsheet. Spreadsheets are only as good as the info that goes into it, and it is usually only helpful on repetitive calcs.

Doing them by hand in the beginning may seem tedious, but will benefit you in the long haul.
