I should have brought this up already. I need to check out retrofitting a few troffers to LED. These have emergency ballasts & I know they can’t power a 120/277 retro lamp.

I have heard that ballast driven retros can work. Anyone know for sure?

If you want to use a lighting inverter, you can use whatever on it as long as you're under the rated wattage.
https://www.signify.com/en-us/brands/bodine/products/inverters These are essentially a miniature UPS that provides power when "always on" side of power is lost. If you use the large one, you could just attach it to "always on" power remotely and configure it to only power up one lamp per fixture (although, that lamp will run at 100% output). If having one lamp running at 100% output works for your application this will work for you.

Otherwise, "emergency ballasts" can only work with "with ballast" lamps. https://www.signify.com/en-us/brands/bodine/products/fluorescent-emergency-ballasts
