Good morning.
I will be going to the local supply house to check on this but thought I would get a jump start on it here.

For the past several years I've tried to stay away from gc's and builders but I met one who says he is doing a build and I have the job but would also be looking for a number ...

The last time I would price up jobs was using incandescent high hats. Usually the lightolier 1102 or 1002 and 1171 or 1071.

The prints ask for led down lights and cfl surface mount fixtures.

Are these special fixtures? Or regular fixtures that get led or cfl builds.

I see the retro fit kits from Home Depot ??? My local supplier deals with Juno so I will ask there also.

Any preferences?

Thank you. Have a great day

Rich

Man oh man. Doing google search. There's a big ole led down light world out there.

Why can't they leave well enough alone ?

I would give an allowance for the surface fixtures and I would price the recessed cans without the LED. If they want LED bulbs you can use the standard fixture and use an LED bulb such as an R30 Led. I can get those bulbs for about $12 apiece so if they want LED just add about $20/fixture. If they want the LED modules then you need to price them. I think we pay somewhere around $40 for them

Thank you Dennis,

Boy am I getting confused...

I checked out juno from the supply house..

I can do a 25w-wh trim with incandescent bulb or led.... or they also have a led retrofit...

when in the past I would calculate the 1102p1 at 150w a piece and the 1002p1 at 100w (maybe 75) a piece... with these junos, what actually do you calculate wattage at... depending on the trim they're all different... the highest possable at 75 watt (or even 90)? or the trim you're actually using???

the retrofit is a Luminus.... How can you tell if this or any retofit kit is rated for the fixture... I did see juno retrofits on line, but.. the retro is also rated at 22.5 watts.........does the fixture get rated for a trim thats not going in or for the retro fit kit...??

man oh man...

I'm looking at this again. I don't see any specs for led in the fixture trims.. is it just understood that led bulbs are rated..and any retro kit "if it fits" is rated for the fixture??

Imo you use the highest possible wattage the can uses to calculate the load.

220.14(D) Luminaires. An outlet supplying luminaire(s) shall be
calculated based on the maximum volt-ampere rating of the
equipment and lamps for which the luminaire(s) is rated.

yes... nutty.... :- )

so it will never see a 90 watt that "that" one trim specs but would have to be rated for it... and if I was to go with lightolier 1102's they would have to be rated for 150w..... nutty

any thought on retro fit or led bulb ratings?

IMO it is a matter of looks. I personally don't like the LED Trim but would rather have a standard trim and an led bulb. Some like the enclosed trim that you get with the LED Trim. You need to watch the temp. rating. Usually you can only get one color in the trim while you have a variety of temperatures with the R30 bulbs. I did one kitchen where the owner wanted 5000K . Boy was that white

You can get LED trims at prices which are pretty comparable to a standard trim and screw-in LED bulb. I have a commercial job right now where I'm doing both types - LED trims inside, screw-in outside

I've started buying them online because of the pricing and selection. Here are 3000k 6" and 4" I recently purchased...

If you like a more incandescent feel, here are some 2700k which are even higher lumens....

Here are some 3000k screw-in bulbs:

As for CFL surface mounted fixtures, I would imagine it is requiring a GU10 base, which keeps the CFLs at an Energy Star rating

I would double check with the GC. If the prints call for LED down lights, I don't think an LED screw in bulb would be acceptable. A retro kit may not even qualify since they do manufacture actual LED can lights.

I'd just rather double check ahead of time as opposed to getting jammed up.

Thank you for that suggestion.. I agree. the prints say led down lights DBO (directed(determined) by owner).. same as the other fixtures like weather proof paddle fan/light( ??? ) led undercabs, light bar..... it's the engineer architect vague layout..

the gc is easy going and brings suggestions to the owner.

I think as mentioned, I'll give price for installing and alternate prices for trim/bulb, led retro, led can lights, or owner supplied...??? thanks for all the input..
