Hey Gents,

I am new to his forum and would greatly appreciate any thoughts on the matter. I have built a new 40 x 64 metal shop with 14 ft eve height and 20 peak height. Shop has metal columns, rafters, and skin with wood purlins and girts. Anyway, I am mounting the new 8 ft long LED lights to the metal rafters using black plastic zip ties rated at 50 lbs each. The LED light itself weighs 2 lbs total and is about 1.5 inches in diameter. NEC 314.27 requires 50 lbs support (I believe).

Your thoughts? Are zip ties not considered "permanent"? Would metal zip ties qualify? Because of the metal attachments on the bottom of the rafters, there is no way to mount directly to the rafter without fabricating spacers and drilling through 1/4 inch steel. These lights weigh 2 lbs each and are only 1.5 inches in diameter. Thanks!
