Can LED wafer lights that attach with the spring loaded ears be installed in ceiling tile without an independent support back to the structure?

If the tile dies not provide adequate support could a 1/8” thick Masonite backer be placed above the tile in the 2’x2’ cut out to add additional strength?

I know some of the lights come with a mounting pan to hold the wafer and they in turn attach to the grid work.

Thanks

Halo has a cheap mounting plate that attaches to the grid that also mount the junction box. They're about $4. They manufacturer these plates for a reason and IMO these fixtures cannot be just mounted to the tile.

Can only a Halo brand fixture attach to their mounting plate?

Not sure if other brands would work for the junction box due to spacing of the integral studs but the spring clips on the wafer would work if they're the same size as the Halo brand. This is what it looks like the Halo box attached.
