Commercial LED

Commercial LED

I went to CES 2009 in Vegas earlier this month. While talking with an LED manufacturer, he told me that they supply LED's to the casinos for their Marquee lights outside. The one sign (I forgot which casino) has 1000's of LED's in the sign on top of the casino.

Also, Cooper Lighting has a new line of LED high hats for new and retrofit. I don't know of anyone using them yet though.

The lighting show in NYC in May should provide some interesting insight on the future of commercial and residential use of LED's.

Lcd- not to my knowledge, wrong technology for the application. Led- yes but mostly for its lifespan and color mixing capabilities, usually decorative. I have done Wallgreens where the outdoor signs were lit with led's but we had a 3' by about 7' tall panel for all the drivers. It's nice when you want that cooler light temp and there's no room for HID.
I think the situation will be similar to the use of CFL's in the home, price and ability to dim will be the selling point.
