Have a sign that has a series of LED modules that has recently had about 80 % of them go out. Thought maybe the first one in the series was bad causing everything downstream to not work but when i skipped that one it didnt solve issue. Power comes in and is split to two different strings. One string of 3 works fone but the other string of about 20 doesnt work at all except 3 that have one out of 4 diodes illuminated. Any ideas on how to remedy. Thanks in advance

You don’t know if it’s the last one lit that is failing to pass on the information or if it’s the first one dead that has failed to illuminate. Cut out the last lit and the first dead Pixels and try that.

Should also ask, what voltage are the pixels operating at? 5 volt and each pixel is usually independently controlled, 12 volt and they are typically in sets of three, and increasing above that depending on the voltage and chip used in the pixels will lower your resolution as the voltage increases, so if you have a long string it may be that the one controlling chip is powering multiple pixels causing a large section to be dead. My knowledge on this is limited to hobby grade information but hopefully that helps a bit.

Was a electrical sign installer for 18 years, this a service call or new install? Many factors, the power supply output 12vdc? Most of the new power supplies if overloaded wont work or leds will just flash, so thinking might be related to the leds themselves. jump out the bad diode. If these are string style is easy. We use to take our 18v dewalt batteries of the impact and test a led strip real quick to see if driver related or not.

Need more info, but if the led driver has terminals, then each terminal will only output so much, footage on each led run the same? see if there overloaded, switch it around with the working one and test. low volt easy to work with. Also make sure you got the correct input voltage with a meter.

It is a repair call on a building sign. Supply power comes in and is immediately split to a string of 3 that are working fine and also to a string of about 20. First 7 don't work at all then one has 1 out of 4 on the module working then another 7 not working then another module jumpered in that has 1 out if 4 on module wirking then the rest are out. Was a ciuole days since looked at it but if i remember correctly supply voltage was around 10vdc. I bypassed first one in string thinking maybe first one was bad and not letting power continue, but no improvement. Thanks
