HOW LONG OF S.O. CORD CAN I RUN FOR A 480 VOLT 36" FAN. IT IS MOUNTED FROM THE CEILING AND EXTENDS DOWN 16'. WE HAVE S.O. CORD RUNNING TO IT NOW, WILL THIS NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH CONDUIT? THIS IS IN AN INDUSTRIAL SETTING? ANY INPUT WILL HELP. THANX.

Is this fan a permanent installation?

Portable cord is not allowed as a substitute for fixed wiring. It can be attached to the building structure, except for pendant drops.
Take a look at article 400.

Re: LENGTH OF S.O. CORD?

Hi Guys,

After reviewing Article 400.7 Uses Permitted, and 400.8 Uses Not Permitted, I'm not so sure that flexable cord can not be used if installed considering all related requirements for use.

Just my two cents,
Dave

Why not run a length of MC cable? Its just as easy to install as SO cord and offers better protection.
