Lengthening 3-wire dryer circuit

Old dryer is in the garage on a 3-wire. New laundry being moved inside on the shared wall with the 3-wire circuit.

The easiest thing to do is junction the circuit in the garage(it's in a surface mount box) and run a couple feet, poke through wall to new location inside.

I am wondering if altering that old circuit by a couple feet will force me to rewire the whole circuit as a 4-wire?

Agreed, any alterations other then replacing the receptacle, or breaker, triggers a need to upgrade. Some may say that even replacing those 2 items will trigger it.

I seem to recall WA has a WAC (state code) rule on when a 3 wire needs to updated.

What about blanking that box off & using an old work (pop-in) behind the existing one, just up a bit? Would the dryer cord reach?

And not extending the wiring? It won't quite work this way, needs to move a couple feet to be in the correct location(I think).
