Afci in bedroom. afci will trip every other day or so. 6 recp., 2 smokes, and three motion detector flood lights are the only things on this circuit. Have checked ALL wiring. talked with owner nothing strange going on to trip breaker. Doesn't trip at any set time of day. Have changed this breaker once. The only thing plugged in is clock radio, 2 table lamps. Any good, legal ideas

Curt, can you megger the circuit? I'm probably wrong, but could this be a real case of the device doing it's job? There could possibly be a parallel arc in the circuit, i.e. staple to tight.

Possiblities

Loose connection.
Shared nuetrals
Bad outlet or switch
Back stabbed in device loose
Floods could be moving due to the wind?

Not to insult you but have you tried removing lights, clocks, outlet, switches one at a time to eliminate each probable cause?

Re: lets try it again

Are you sharing neutrals???
I hope these tips will help you
A)Check each of your circuit(s) separately, neutrals and hot legs, meger each one in reference to ground and to each other.
B)Check the devices that you have installed for phisical damage, revise the manufactures recommendation for connectivity of the devices.
C)Start to energize and isolate each group one at a time and later each device at a time.
Good luck
