Most power company's in our area set a combo meter at the base of their pole when they set the transformer for residential services.I've noticed that even though this combo has a main breaker in it,electricians are installing another breaker enclosure on the outside of the house. Most install urd 3 wire from the pedestal to the breaker enclosure on the outside of the house and then extend copper ser with ground from the outside disconnect to a main lug panel in the garage. Are they installing the breaker enclosures on the outside of the house to make the transision from aluminum to copper only? or would a j-box suffice? most of these installs do not allow the service conduit to come up the outside wall and go directly into the panels.
