On some ECs and builders web sites, I see they have dozens, if not scores, of letters from customers praising the company for their stellar performace.

How many of you out there actually have received such letters?

For those who get them: Are they completely the idea of the customer, or do you have some method in place to induce them to write them?

Short of bribing a customer ("Hey, tell you what, I'll take fifty bucks off your bill if you write this letter for me....."), how do some outfits seem to be swimming in this sea of paper?

Maybe they do a really good job. We get them all the time, never solicited, and I dont feel the need to post them, I think that is a little cheesy.

Mostly "Thank You" notes and not long testimonials, I think a couple of letters at the end of extensive remodeling jobs but by that time I was practically a member of the family, should of had a mail box on the job.

I include a short note on all invoices ( message) with a thank for the business and happy to be of future service . Just a couple of lines to be cordial. But I don't solicit letters.

I'm not looking to post them, but to have them available should a prospective customer ask.

480, Looking at your web site there's not much missing there, but if you want to know the pulse of the public,
maybe hire a publist for a couple of hours to bounce some ideas around.
I'm sure you could come up with fifty questions.

Working for my previous employer we'd get quite a few. He'd always tell me to put them in a scrap book to save for the future. I did hold on to them. He went under, and now that I'm on my own - I've got a few also. I can say I more impressed with getting paid on each of my jobs - that's as big of a thank you as I really need.
