Hi all,

Summary:
Does harmonic distortion mitigation need to be implemented when there is a large quantity of Level 1 EV chargers?

Details:
My company has a fleet of (20) hybrid vehicles for which we are looking to install (20) 120V / 20A receptacles (Level 1 charging method) so that at the end of the work day, the each car can be plugged in and charged through the car's internal charging device. The receptacles would be fed from the nearby lab building MDP. The building contains lab instrumentation, various test equipment, refrigerators and freezers, etc.

After researching the topic, my concern is harmonic distortion caused by the chargers/rectifiers and the subsequent effect on lab/test equipment in the building. The articles I have read stated that chargers will cause harmonic distortion, even more so with Level 2 and Level 3 charge stations, but really present no solution or direction when installing a large quantity of Level 1 "stations."

Does anybody have any experience with this? Are filters or phase shifting transformers recommended, or am I looking way too far into this? I contacted the car manufacturer and they were not able to assist with anything exterior to the car.

Thanks

Just because there is some (or even a lot of) harmonic distortion does not mean it will harm any of the lab equipment.
