levels of certification?

Hello,
Are there diffrent levels of certification?

I'm a low voltage installer, and once in a blue moon, I need to do something with high voltage on a very basic for level.

Like right now, I need to put a diffent plug on a power cord. It would take me 5 minutes. But I don't want the liability, so I pay an electrician to do it.

Is there a basic level if licensing that I can apply for, or is it an all or nothing deal.

It depends on where you are. In California they are cracking down on certification of electricians. They are really tightening things up. They are rolling out a new apprentice certification as we speak.

In CA it basically goes like this:
Apprentice;
Journeyman;
Contractor.

There are at least three categories of Journeyman. You get a bye while you are in an approved Apprenticeship Program.
