Leviton GFI outlets from 2003

Has anyone heard of any recalls from Leviton for their residential grade 15 amp GFI outlets? I recently encountered a home where 2 of them just failed. The first still showed about 30 volts on another receptacle which was on the load side of the GFI, no other outlets on it. The second dead shorted internally. No apparent reason other than the home owner reset it one day.. Now I'm wondering if all their GFI's are going to fail in the near future. The 2 mentioned above failed within 3 weeks of each other.

Has there been a near by lightning strike recently? The reason I ask is that I lost all the GFCI receptacles in my house at the same time when lightning hit close by a few years ago, nothing else was affected.

We haven't had any noticable storms the last couple weeks. one was an exterior GFI the other a bathroom GFI. Homeowner said they don't use the outside one often, and usually if they do it's for a laptop or small loads.

I have had to replace a dozen or so Leviton 15 and 20 amp GFCI's recently. Some show no power at the device but work on the load side and some won't work on the load side at all. I've changed to PS now and they seem to be working fine. I guess its just a symptom of outsourcing to cheaper labor markets.
