Not knowing where you are located, the question is impossible to answer.

IF you are in NJ, you would have to be an officer of the company [the one courting you].

If he really means that he wants you to work for his company (as in, you quit your other job first), then negotiate a salary that exceeds what you are making now. If all he wants is to place your license number on permit application forms, and doesn't want to pay you to do any actual electrical installation (or project management) work, then that is illegal in some states, and INHO it is unethical in all states.

depends on what he really wants you to do.

if he wants to use you to do work for him thats one thing.

if he wants your license to qualify him for something but does not actually want you to do anything thats something else.

he may not even know what he wants, or what the legal requirements are for what he thinks he wants.

I would want to ask lots of questions of a company wishing to use my license.

How long in business and how come they don't have a license? A little history of the company would be nice. I wouldn't want to work for a company that had their license revoked or something like that.

If the company appears to meet your criteria for a responsible and legit company then find out what plans they have for you in the company. Is there something that you can do for the company other than sign permits to help make the company more money. The more you bring to the table the more you can ask for. If they need you to run large jobs for example that's already worth pretty good money for an experienced foreman and the license is just icing on the cake. If they just need you to pull a power permit because they already have a low voltage license and this would be usefull on occasion then it may not be worth a much.

Get an idea of what they want from you and where the job is going in the long term and you will have a better idea what to ask for. Bigger companies with a track record have deeper pockets than small start up companies.

Unless you are an owner or officer of the company and you are doing the work or have persons listed as qualified individuals under your license that you are supervising it is a no-no. If you provide permits pulled under your name and other people do the work with out your supervision the board looks at it as you selling your license. Then you get to visit Raleigh and set in front of the disciplanary board. Oh by the way, when you go take cash. Around $500.00 to $1000.00 and be prepared to be put on probation.
