NEC Section 517.31(C)(3) states that life safety circuits are required to be in EMT (except per the locations listed in note part 3) But does anyone know if a light fixture is low voltage does the low voltage wiring from the L.V. txf to the light also have to be in conduit.

Thanks
JP

The voltage that the life safety circuit operates at has nothing to do with the required mechanical protection of that circuit. If it is a life safety circuit, it needs mechanical protection. This is not a rule to protect others from the voltage on the life safety circuit. This is a rule to prevent physical damage to the life safety circuit.

Hello Don, (Thanks for the reply)
We agree but wanted to see if anyone had a different opinion or knew of an exception, since these lights are so small it will be very difficult to connect a box and conduit to them, we are going to see if the inspector will allow fire rated MC cable

Thanks again don_resqcapt19

They are not batteries, they are just the corridor lights which will be connected to the generator
