I have been asked about a relatively new requirement for life safety loads requiring LSI circuit breakers on all amperages. Is this a fact? I'm not sure adding a short time delay option is always a good idea. I took a brief look into the code but haven't found this requirement yet. Perhaps someone could shed some light on this?

Thank you.

LSI adjustability makes it easier to comply with selective coordination requirements.
I have not seen this functionality explicitly listed in any code.

Thank you Jim. I understand completely. We are looking at a small 60-80A feeder, feeding a step down transformer, but because it is in a biolab they are telling us it needs to have LSI. I understand coordinating downstream devices to make sure they operate in proper succession to minimize unnecessary upstream events. I think this is one of throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

I appreciate your quick response and valued input.

Sounds like someone's pet specifications for a project and not actual code.
