I'm not sure how the post title relates to the question, but I seem to recall borax being a filler component in some fuses. It's also good for killing roaches.

A little history....

When I was a kid I remember the 20 mule team as part of the advertizing on TV.

Seems like I remember using borax (I think) as a flux of sorts when using an oxy torch to weld steel with brass filler rod in high school shop class. That was the only time I ever torch welded in my life, so I'm a little foggy on that.

Son Of A Gun, you are a wealth of knowledge if ever there was one, WHY AIN't YOU RICH....
Being poor is a lifestyle.

My dad was a fan of westerns, so I was fetched up on that stuff. He'll sit to this day watching an old episode of Bonanza like it's a brand new show.

A electrical company I worked at,when there was no service calls at the time I repaired appliances. Whenever a space heater 'radiant' came in with a visable open on the element I was shown to get the Borax from the bathroom cabnet and mix a little with water to make a paste.Fill the breach in element and (either plug it in or use our 'normal voltage' tester)to repair. After reading wiki and MDShunk reply I see this was just a flux.It went together good and worked tho.Customer happy.bh.

Wow. there is an element in there also. Unless the element was not broken I don't see how the borax worked. Perhaps it is conductive enough and made contact to both ends of the broken element???
