Lighning Arrestors

I am having trouble finding where in the Code that it is required to install a lightning arrestor at the service entrance. It is always the first thing an inspector looks for, therefore, I assumed that it had to be in the Code. I now have a plan reviewer telling me to take it off the plans because it is not required by Code or the utility.

Re: Lighning Arrestors

As Charie said the code does not require a lightning arrestor at the main. However, if you live in an area that is prone to lighning this it makes sense to install surge protection at the main. The cost is not much when compare to most electrical installations. Some times good sense must take over in spite of the PLAN REVIEWER.
Just for information what size is the main and what are the supressor characteristics.

Re: Lighning Arrestors

Thank you gentlemen for the information. I finally (after three hours of digging) found the requirement on the County's web site. And since the job is in central Florida, I am going to put the supressors in, in spite of what the plan reviewer says, even though he is supposed to be looking out for the owners best interests. (Plan review was done by a private engineering firm hired by the owner)
