Question for you resedential guys; Why do manufactures of light fixtures not explicitly say to use an approved splice in the instructions? Most new luminaries come with Aluminum wire when copper wire is far more common in homes. Most come with just standard wire nuts in the package. I would be willing to bet that 90% of do-it yourselfers are hooking these lights up illeagally. Seems like a fire waiting to happen. Is their an exception I am missing somewhere? I'd love to hear your take on this.

BTW, love the forum and happy to be the new kid on the block

Thanks, John

I have never seen a new fixture or any fixture with aluminum wire on it. Are you sure its aluminum? Cut off the end and look again.

Not Aluminim?

Not Aluminim?

Ahh, you are probably right. I looked at the end of the wire when I cut it off and it looked like solid aluminum to me. It's hard to tell on #18. I will look for the marking on the wire next time. Thank you very much!
