I have an inspector that is requiring a light and a receptacle at an air handler which is located above a lay-in ceiling. What section of the code is he interperting? The ceiling height is 9' aff.

Re: light/recpt at hvac location

I have seen Section 210.70(C) and 110.26(D) argued for this point. I am personally on the fence with this one as neither of these section is an exact match for the installation. In general, our jurisdiction requires illumination in all locations where life safety issues are of concern.

This is an interesting one. I will say that without actually seeing the jobsite, it is hard for an outsider like us to be able to determine exactly what is there, but we can still hypothesize.

By removing the ceiling tiles, is enough light available?

Could he use a receptacle from the room in which this is situated?

That's a question for the inspector. What code cycle are you under?
