lighting contactors

When do I need to use a lighting contactor instead of a snap switch? My application is 4 400 watt MH highbays @ 240 volt. Am I ok with a double pole double throw snap switch? Would it be ok to put a 1500 watt MH @ 120 volt on a 20 amp snap switch?. Thanks
