Does anyone know where I can find some white papers or non specific vedor information regarding the pros and cons of line voltage occupancy sensors and the use of a neutral conductor? I understand most manufacturers manufacturer both models (neutral / non-neutral) From what I have found these units (non-neutral) contain a power supply designed to generate the current necessary to operate the device , these versions use the ground connection to complete the relay circuit while producing a minimal amount of ground leakage. Just wondering everyone?s opinions on this and where I can find additional information regarding pros, cons, and where it would not be desirable to have a non-neutral connection I can imagine all new construction you would want the neutral? Does this violate any NEC or UL regulations rules I could not any. I wonder if the non-neutral is a UL listed device?

Interesting question, Mike. I'm curious about generalized white paper info on that subject, as well.

There certainly has been consumer side pressure back at the manufacturers, what with trying to use CFLs. The incompatibility of an electronic fluorescent ballast with a silicon-controlled-switch based controls is happening again and again as the innocent, well meaning consumer tries to "green" his/er dwelling.

The consumer side, in existing dwellings, is of particular interest to me because of the large installed base of neutral-less switch boxes.
