Wiring methods are set out at Article 620.21 and at 620.3(B) it says to look at Article 410 for lighting requirements.:smile:

You mean lighting requirement at top of elevator shaft? if this is the case, Never heard of this, how are we going to service the lights???

By the way, I knew per elevator code, lighting output in elevator pit need to have at least min. 10 foot-candle. And in elevator machine room, lighting output need to have at least min. 19 foot-candle.

I mean , it is required to install lighting fixtures in the vertical elevator shaft for maintenance issue

I doubt the NEC addresses this. You would need to look in an elevator code book or perhaps the Life & Safety Code to get an answer.

You will find the requirements in ASME 17.1. Certain types of elevators do require lighting at the top of the shaft, it can be serviced from the top of the car.

Lighting in the pit at the bottom of the shaft is normally required.
