last night I walked to the Albertson next door and saw that at least 10 of the lights in the parking lot were not working . I was wondering if there is some king of maintenance contract that can be offered ? who do I need to talk to , to offer to fix those faulty lights , and the most important how and/or how much to charge. I don't have a bucket truck and no idea of the cost of renting 1 ,
how much to charge for replacing a bulb
how much to charge for replacing a ballast kit.
any inputs on this ?

Chances are a large chain like Albertson's already has a list of preferred lighting maintenance contractors who provide these services for them. We don't have Albertson's but have Shaws which are owned by them, and I'm pretty sure they use Sylvania or one of the large lighting maintenance outfits around here.

It never hurts to ask but just know you'll be competing against companies with very large economies of scale (large quantities of lamps, the right equipment, etc.)

They are hard to beat, they run the maint crew at bare bones prices, they make the money selling lamps.

Depends on what they want.

I have two strip malls and one school that I deal with like this. One strip malls just wants to call me whenever they need me. I bill it as a normal service call.

The other two, I make it a point to drive by every two weeks or so after sunset to see what's not working. I then set a time & date to do the repairs, and simply submit a statement. They prefer this arrangement as it's 'automatic' as far as they are concerned. If a light goes out, within a couple weeks it's back on. No hassle, no calling, no problems.

As for what to charge, that's kind of up to you. Whatever works and make you money. Personally, if I need to get higher than a 10' stepladder gets me, everything gets replaced.... ballast kit, lamp(s), the whole ball of wax.

As a guideline, I'd say charge so much for the trip. Then so much to change a lamp, and so much to change a ballast kit. I think it would be fooling to try to set a monthly amount and state you'll keep their lights on for that set price.

What are you 15. Don't give me that 1/2 - 45 min.

You have to become a vendor or they won't call.

Submit liability, vehicle, workers comp certs.

Meet with the VP's in charge of construction if you really want the work.
