Lighting on sprinkler pipes

OK, I can hear the laughing already, but I'll ask anyway.

I have a client with a funky loft and poor lighting. It would be a good fit if we could use clamp-on stage lighting attached to the existing sprinkler pipes.

I don't have the specific reference for attaching electrical "stuff" to plumbing "stuff" but I know there is a code.

Any thoughts on a legal way to to do this? Any creative suggestions for lighting on a concrete ceiling?

Thanks

If stage lighting would look good bolt some pipes to the ceiling to hang stage lights.

That is an option, but the client is trying to avoid cluttering the ceiling any more than it already is. One option we suggested was to install up lights on the floor, but part of the desire is to improve reading light over the sofas, so the up lights don't really cut it there.
