Lighting on top of an elevator?

Does anyone know any code sections or reference regarding lights on top of a elevator?

Is this something that is usually provided by the elevator manufacturer? Or at each level, or at the top of the shaft?

Don't know if it's code, but every elevator I've been on top of has a handheld manual override control panel, and it holds a lightbulb...

I have never seen a modern elevator without a factory installed lamp holder on the top near the controls as was already mentioned.

We provide pit lights and receptacles but the car lighting is the elevator guys.

not sure if its NEC but local codes here in south carolina require it so that the elevator techs can see when they are using the override...and as electricians we dont handle it..the elevator company does. i believe its tapped off the 110 for car lights.

On top thats is usually powered by the elevator and thus the elevator's installors responsibility, the shaft lights might be your responsibility, But your State Code may vary.

Ususally in this State the light above also includes the cab lights(same circuit/service) is a single fused disconnect (lockable) thats in the elevator room, sent over to the elevator control unit. But your State Code may vary.
