Lighting outlet Box

What is the Code for installing an out let box for a bath room light fixture? Do you have to have a box for the wire connections to fit into or is it okay for the wire to be connected inside the fixture? (New home construction)

Generally speaking, all connections, junctions, and splices should take place within a box. However, some fixtures are listed as use with space allowances for fixture lead connections to branch-circuit wiring. Some fixtures are listed as raceways as well. See Section III of Article 410 including 410.31 and 410.32 for additional box/fixture requirements. Aslo see Article 310.15(J).

Simply put,if there is a canopy then there meust be a box !!!!!!!!! I f tit is a vanity strip then all that you need is a stub on rough in and a connector on trim out.
