Re: lighting over whirlpool

Hello Ju

I am assuming (usually a bad thing to do) that you mean Hydromassage Bathtub.
680.72 refers you to 410.4(D) which instructs you what can and cannot be installed in that location.

410.4 Luminaires (Fixtures) in Specific Locations.
(A) Wet and Damp Locations. Luminaires (fixtures) installed in wet or damp locations shall be installed so that water cannot enter or accumulate in wiring compartments, lampholders, or other electrical parts. All luminaires (fixtures) installed in wet locations shall be marked, ?Suitable for Wet Locations.? All luminaires (fixtures) installed in damp locations shall be marked, ?Suitable for Wet Locations? or ?Suitable for Damp Locations.?

Do you think this is why the manufacturers make enclosed gasketed recessed light trims and call them shower lights?

Scott

Are you 'splitting hairs' here, or is that really the intent of this. Is there not the possibility of say, kids splashing in the tub and possibly the water could hit the bulb. I know when my children were younger, I always got in trouble for splashing too much with the kiddles in the tub.

Re: lighting over whirlpool

Very interesting! Under hot tubs (IV) 680.43 Indoor installation (B)(1)over a hot tub is considered being a damp area. Both hot tub and Hydromassage Bathtubs give off water steam or vapors.Article 550 Mobile Homes, Manufactured Homes, and Moble Home Park 550.14 (D consider bathtub a wet location.Did Mike put a spell check on this site?
