Lighting Panel Main Breaker

If you are on the 2005 code still, the definition of a lighting panel board is in Article 408. Someone that has 2005 codebook handy can probably be more specific.

If you are on the 2008 code, then there is no longer such a thing as a lighting panel board.

I?m spun out! Where can I find code about lighting panel requiring [not] a main breaker/disconnect?

There has never been a requirement that the main device be "inside" the panel. So, the feeder breaker can be considered the require main device.

No panel requires a main breaker. No panel requires a disconnecting means.

Separate from these statements, services and feeders coming into a building do require a disconnecting means. But it does not have to happen in the first panel inside the building. Also separate from these statements, a panel must have overcurrent protection. Here again, that need not happen within the panel, as a breaker in the upstream panel could serve that purpose.

I see it now in 05 (rather than 08), it's 408.34 & 408.36. These are not in 08.

Thanks I'm using 08 on this project in question
