Hello, and happy new year:
I have been asked to submit a quote for a lighting retrofit. It is a combined office/health club. There are a total of 824 light fixtures. There are 4 lamp 2x4's, 3 lamp 2x4's, 4ft strips, 8ft strips, wrap-arounds, 2x2's, and some MH high-bay lights. Most will just require replacement of lamps & ballasts, some will use "retro-fit kits", and the high bay lights will be replaced with T5 fixtures. I am not providing the lamps & ballasts, etc, but I will provide the labor and the incidentals ( tape, wirenuts, mc connectors, etc.) I will also be responsible for getting rid of all the old stuff.
I'm looking for some thoughts on how to price this. Obviously I'll apply a labor factor to each fixture type, and then add some additional to cover the material. I'm thinking one hour per 2x4, a bit more for the high bay lights - maybe 1.5 or 2 - and a bit less for the strip lights - maybe .8. The wildcard here is disposal of over 1000 ballasts and about 3000 lamps! I don't even know how to go about that.
Can any of you guys with experience in this type of work let me know what you think of my labor estimates? Also, anything else I might be overlooking? Any advice?
Thanks!

On the disposal the place to start would be the local landfill. See if they will take the lamps and ballast and if they do how much? If they will not take them they may direct you to some one that recycles this material. You then can get a price for disposal. Don't forget to add in your time for rounding all this stuff up, coordinating the disposal and/or transportation.

You need to come up with a labor adjustment for accessability to different heigths and rooms can become a major factor on retrofits.
